I am dedicated to enthusiastic and dynamic teaching as a means of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of  literature and effective communication for secondary students. My experiences with behavior and group management as well as building community are assets in creating a productive classroom environment where learning is maximized. I utilize a wide range of educational methodologies and have acted as the Instructional Lead for the English Department (2014-2015) at Pittsburg High School. I also attended the 2016 CATE conference and explored the use of graphic novels, blogs, and personal narratives in instruction.

Teacher of English, Concord High School, Concord, CA, August 2016 – June 2017

  • At Concord High School, I taught Senior ERWC and Sophomore English. I worked to contribute to the school’s successful WASC accreditation. I worked with the English department to make steps towards creating a universal writing guide. I communicated with my push-in support teachers about modifications for students on their case load. I also worked to develop professionally by attending Constructing Meaning courses and attending the CATE conference. In addition to my instructional duties, I also acted as the coach for the school’s improv team.

 

Teacher of English, Pittsburg High School, Pittsburg, CA, August 2012 - March 2016

  • At Pittsburg High School, I taught Senior Literature, Sophomore College Prep, and AP Literature and Composition. I was trained in standards-based grading, worked with the English department to unpack Common Core standards and create proficiency scales and rubrics; as well as creating and refining curricular materials to align with Common Core. I was also trained in the Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum and attended trainings on Project-Based Learning. In addition to my curricular work, I also acted as the school’s social chair for the 2014-2015 school-years. I organized group gatherings, potlucks, and the Winter Holiday party. Finally, I acted as the Instructional Lead for the English department. In this capacity I mentored my fellow teachers in support of the Structured Language Practice emphasis of the district Instructional Coaches. To prepare myself, I integrated a wide range of Structured Language Practices into my lesson plans, provided additional materials, and observed and provided feedback to my peers on their instructional strategies.
